I know my grandfather got it when he was in Denmark. Im curious about how old it is. I have looked in books and online, as I said I havent seen another like it. Do you know where I might find an extensive list of his plates with pics, so that I may further identify this one. I will try to put a pic on for you to see it. Not sure if I know how. If I cant put a pic on maybe someone can direct me on how I might learn to do that. Thanks a bunch!!

"Little Mermaid" is the 1962 Christmas plate made by Royal Copenhagen. It cost $11.00 when issued. Its value is probably $250-$400 now. RC began this series of plates in 1908...and it continues today. The first (1908) plate sells for about $3,000 - $4,000! I recently completed an appraisal for an estate that donated the complete series to Auburn University (Alabama). They are all beautiful.
Do a search in Google (www.google.com) for Royal Copenhagen. I'm sure you can find several companies who have the complete series.

By vivian riegelman (Vivian) on Thursday, May 16, 2002 - 05:35 pm: Because the Little Mermaid is a symbol of Copenhagen, Royal Copenhagen made a number of Little Mermaid plates, including one that is a very small butter pat size. The Christmas plate has the date, 1962, under the picture.
