I've seen pictures of several different models of "Danbury" tables made by Charak in the old catalogs I own. I believe "Danbury" was the name Charak gave to 3 or 4 slightly different tables that all operated the same way. They looked like ordinary drop leaf center pedestal tables but could be expanded into dining table size by raising the leaves, twisting the top and finally by inserting extra leafs. I believe these come up at auction from time to time but finding one will be hit or miss. Best of luck.
JB, try contacting the furniture library in High Point, NC for information on the Charak Furniture Co. The curator is Carl Vuncannon. 336-883-4011.
I have a two-piece hutch by Charak Furniture Company, dated 1931 and numbered 48. It is in good condition, and the scroll-work(?) on the top and sides is really beautiful. Any clue what it would be worth? Thank you!

I have a drop leaf table w/label in it "handmade in workshops of Charak Furniture Co, Boston, Mass. Danbury table. Very unusual. Lift drop leaves up and turn entire table top 180 degrees to lock top in "up" position. You can then open it and insert 2 additional leaves. Also have the matching "china cabinet". Am interested in selling. Anyone know approximate value?
Laura
An "approximate value" is almost an impossibility. There are so many variables such as size, age, wood, style, condition, etc. You would really need to have one of our appraisers look at the table. You can go to our national website www.isa-appraisers.org and follow the link "Search for an Appraiser". You can quiry for someone in your city or close by that would be able to check it for you.
