I have a 4 1/8" little boy and girl going to market. The number 49 3/0 77 with a small bee in the middle of a large V and it says Western Germany. Both the boy and girl shoes are the same color. Can you tell me the possible value. I want to sell it. Thanks, Trish
I believe this is an antique; It was given to me by my grandmother. Where would you recommend I go for an appraisal? Is there self-investigating, such as
books in the library that can be done by a novice, what would you recommend as a starting point of investigation?

I believe what you have is the Hummel figure "Feeding Time" copyrighted in 1948. The 199/0 could refer to the 1995 issue. These figures were in various sizes and at various periods. The marking usually indicates about when the figure was made. Most any good library will have books on Hummels. You can even research them on their website. Values, however, will vary almost daily. If you identify the exact figure you have, you could probably find the price on it on the Internet. Of course you can also click on Search For An Appraiser at the left and find an appraiser in your area if you wish.
Its a cute figure! You are fortunate to have it.

Bill gave you some excellent information about your figure and where to go for information.
199 is the model number for Feeding Time and /0 indicates that the piece is 4 1/4 to 4 1/2" high. You will be able to tell the age of the figure by examining the little mark on the underside that has a bee inside a V. By checking it against the marks list in almost any Hummel book, you will be able to determine the age. This is very important in determining the value of the piece.

Try to put "hummel 199" under completed items on Ebay. I almost always find then there with various marks and what they sell for.
I also use the site for Allen's in Westerville, Ohio. It is www.allensinc.com. They are a secondary market for collectibles.
I have five hummel figurines, one is stormy weather 51 7" tall. The date that they were made is 1948. What kind of value do these have, they are in excellent condition.
Thanks

Giving a value for Hummels is very tricky. You need to let an expect examine them to make sure of the issue. Stormy Weather is No. 71, not 51. There was a 6 1/4" (71/1) but I don't think there was a 7". Also the mark would have to be examined closely. Those made in 1948 would have probably had the U S ZONE mark. Also there were similar items made by others. There are still a lot of "knock-offs!
You need to take your figures to a good Hummel dealer or contact one of our appraisers near you. You can click the Search for an Appraiser link at the left to find someone in your area to assist you.
Thanks for writing ISA. I hope you can find the help you need.
