You ask a question impossible to answer by email.

An appraiser has to consider the mark, the style, the material used, the design..etc. These give us an idea when and where the item was made.

The mark you described may be the one used by P. H. Leonard, a NYC importer in the early 20th century. We would have to see the mark to be sure. The decorating description doesn't help much There are millions of decorating designs. Replacements Ltd (www.replacements.com) may be able to identify it if you could send them a very good picture of the mark and the decoaration.

If it is a creamer without the matching sugar, the value will be limited. Without checking it further,it sounds like you have a beaiful piece to add to your china cabinet with a value of $10- $20.

I have a creamer pitcher from Vienna Austria that I would like to know the value of. On the bottom it is stamped with a Crown and underneath that it says Vienna then there are two shields and the Word Austria. It is sky-blue in color with a gold handle and roses around it. There is also an oval of a woman that takes 1/2 the side of the pitcher near the spout. I am very curious, it was purchased a while back in Kansas City. Please let me know. Thank you for your service.

Pat

This is a time when someone would need to look at your items. Several companies have used the H & Co. mark...Heinrich, (this would be my guess..now a part of Villeroy & Bock), Hammersley & Co, Hertel, Heinzl are others.

Your best bet is to send a good color picture of the front and the mark to Replacements Ltd. (www.replacements.com) They will identify it and let you know if they have any of the pattern for sale.

Thanks for contacting us.

I have an antique set of china by H @ Co Selb Bavaria. It has an outer gold ring, then black circles of circles, another gold ring then, then black little lines. There is a faded number 60051 on all the plates. The cups have IMPERIAL above H & C logo. Any guess of age or value? Thanks,

Pat Lynn

Tina:
You can call Replacements in North Carolina for pieces to match your china. You can also go to their website www.replacements.com and see if you can identify it by the number. They are very helpful and if you follow the instructions for identifying a pattern will respond very quickly.

I just got my grandmother's china and I am trying to find out the pattern. It is made by Heinrich & Co., it has a crown on top of the
H & C Selb Bavaria, Germany. It is about 70 years old and on a few pieces written with a gold pen, it has the following number 12952. It is a bone colored pattern with gold and cobalt blue and it has 8 sides on most of the plates etc. If you have any information, please let me know. I need 1 piece to finish a full set for 8, but I would also like to see if I could buy other serving pieces.

Hi!
I've recently purchased a set, stamped Bavaria with a little crown but no date or manufacturer # or anything. Just the word Bavaria underneath a little crown. There is a Tea pot, sugar, creamer and cups and saucers for 12 all arranged neatly in there place within a latched box. The items with lids still have tape (very old tape) over them and not a single piece has damage. It is decorated with a man and a woman (I guess you could say they're taking a walk) with a sort of transluesant coloring. I've never seen Bavaria like this. Can you help me determine it's origin and authenticity??
Thank you!

Paige,
You can go to a local bookstore or library and look at the Kovel's Dictionary of Marks. This should help you identify the maker.

I have just purchased a demitasse cup/saucer. I am trying to research the marks to determine the maker. From the info I have gathered it is PH Leonard made in Klasterec around the late 1800's. It is pink white and gold. The markings on the bottom show a crown w/2 shields. It has Vienna Austria. It also has two wings with a crown in between. Anybody know anthing about this?

Thanks,
Paige

I have a number of pieces of SELB Bavaria china that I can not find the marking for and was wondering if you could help me. I am having some difficulty in reading the markings but it appears to read H & A or it could be K & A at the top of the mark with the name Krauthye im inside an oval design with the words SELB Bavaria under the oval. The plates are white with scalloped(sp) edges. I have several small plates with cups and 3 serving dishes. I am interested in purchasing more pieces. Thank You

My Mother & I are trying to figure out the name of her china. On the bottom of the plate it reads Heinrich, H&C Co, Selb, Bavaria, Germany. The detail on the plate is a gold trim with a white bouquet of white flowers (one of them is lily of the valley). Would you happen to know the name of this pattern?

Linda Beth,

Did you call Replacements.com? They have other inventory that is not on the web site. Their costomer service department is very helpful.

You can email them a picture of the plate and they will get back to you. The instructions to email them are on their site.

Good luck. There are millions of patterns.

Hi -- I have gone through every pattern at Replacements.com and this one does not appear to be there for Heinrich. The mark from top line to bottom line is as follows: Crown, H&Co, Selb, Bavaria, Germany, Heinrich. The plate is white with a gold rim. The pattern is green leaves with nine gold bud/flowers. Any ideas on the pattern number or name would be appreciated.

By Paula Hegeler on Saturday, January 27, 2007 - 12:55 pm:

I recently acquired a piece whose mark is TK under a Crown with Czechoslovakia - the mark is green - I believe it is from the Count Thun Porcelain Factory (1918-1939). It is not, however, a piece that looks like it had any particular use - it looks more decorative, and I could not find the pattern represented at Replacements.com.

For want of a better description, I will call it a vase -- but it is oblong in shape and rather squat in stature. It measures about 15" long, 8" wide, and 7-1/2" tall. The handles on each end (the tallest parts of the piece) are gold, there is a gold stripe coming up from each end of the base, tying into the gold "curly-qued" handles, and then the gold flows around the rim of the piece. The inside bowl looks like it has a "mother-of-pearl" effect, and the outside of the piece has cream, rose, & light green colors.

One side of the piece has a pattern of goldish-green leaves, with blackberries (life-size) cascading down; on the right of the blackberries are pink flowers, with tiny white flowers on the left side of the blackberries.

The other side of the piece has the same blackberries, flowers and leaves but are arranged in a different way in that instead of the blackberries flowing down, there are green leaves cascading down.

Any ideas as to what kind of a piece I have, and/or the name of the pattern?
