I have a German Helmet from WW1 and would like to know how do I find an appraiser to determine its value. I also would like to have it restored, if possible since the leather is dried.

There are 8 or 10 of our members who have the speciality of Militaria as their expertise. It might be wise to click the Search For An
Appraiser
link at the left and look for Militaria. The data base will bring them all up so you can find someone near you. I'm sure you can find some expert in this area.

Thank you Bill. I did search and found one appraiser in GA. No one locally in Maryland, Wash, DC or Virginia. I also found 2 people who do restorations. They are also a great distance away. Do people mail such items?

Mail, UPS, or FedEx is about the only way. I personally would use FedEx and insure it. There should be no problem, however disaster in transportation is always a concern. You may remember several years ago a $2,000,000 painting went down with the airplace in the North Atlantic!

Many people are afraid an appraiser or restorer will steal or "switch" items. If you pick someone with a professional society back ground you would have little to worry about there. Our reputation is more valuable that any item sent to us. John Sexton is a Road Show expert on Civil War memorabilia. He may be able to help also. You can get his address from the Search for an Appraiser database at the left.

Good luck!
