In 1968 while living in Spain, I received as wedding gifts many of the same goblets, labelled Plator Made in Spain. At that time I believe each wine goblet about 5" high cost about $6 each at the Navy Exchange (PBX). This means probably 25% less than the retail cost to purchase off base. I have a complete set (12) of wine, (6)brandy, (8)sherbert, (6) martini, (3) Water, (1) candy dish and (1) pair of candelsticks. I recall the name Plator de Ley which I thought was the manufacturer and I thought they were silverplate. Now I find out that "Plator de Ley" means Sterling Silver. Mine look exactly like ones on ebay that are shown with a manufacturers name but I have no such markings on mine. I am curious to know value too so I can sell them. The only other markings are on the underside of the brandy goblets. They have the words MOD on one side of the stem base and PAT. on the other so someone had filed a pattern on them.
Hi!
I'm trying to place a value on (or even find any reference to) a set of ornate goblets in very good to excellent condition (appear to be silver plate by the very poor condition of the 1 I found on E-bay listed under "antiques"). There a six sizes of goblets and each one has a different look (e.g., brushed, optic-effects on bottoms). They are marked "Plator Spain". Any one who can tell me anything out about this manufacturer (probably "ex") would be of great help.
