You might try John Sexton, a noted authority on these items. He is in Stone Mountain, GA. john@civilwardealer.com. Several of our members also specialize in military items. You might go to our search database http://www.isa-appraisers.org/ISA_form.html and search under MILITARIA for someone near you.

Thanks for contacting ISA

I am looking at a wooden canteen that the seller claims is a civil war era or revolutionary war era canteen. However, unlike any personal canteen like that I have seen, there is no spout to drink from on the curved top portion of the canteen. Instead, there is a small rectangular hole on the flat face of the canteen that is said to be stopped up by a small triagular piece of wood. It all seems very strange to me. Can anyone out there help??
